Beginner Kids Kendo Classes

Subject to sensei availability, we frequently offer a beginner class for students of different ages each quarter. Parents and siblings are encouraged to join. For children under 9 years old, parents must be present during class. We have had some parents who started kendo as a result! Parent support is very important at this age.
Beginner classes focus on the basics of kendo (footwork/manners/swing), discipline, respect, friendship, and culture through the way of the sword. The only equipment needed is a shinai (bamboo sword), which the dojo will pre-purchase before the first class, and comfortable clothing.

Intermediate and Advanced Classes
Location: Camas Community Center, 1718 SE 7th Ave, Camas, WA
On Mondays and Wednesdays, we hold intermediate and advanced kendo classes. This begins with a dedicated kids class from 5:15 pm – 6:15 pm. This is followed by mixed age classes from 6:15 pm – 7:15 pm and 7:15 pm – 8:15 pm, dependent on student age and experience.
Intermediate classes focus on further developing student technique and etiquette with the goal of practicing in bogu (kendo armor). Advanced classes are practiced wearing bogu, preparing students for shinsa (promotional exams) and shiai (kendo competition).
Parents are encouraged to help and practice with their kids!
We have over 25 intermediate students in the kids, youth, and adult groups who have started to wear bogu in the past year.
